2010 En Hommage
Bing cherries, huckleberries and vanilla grace the nose as these flavors wrap around a silky core with a finish that lingers with nuance of ripe red fruit and spice. This wine is plush yet fresh and structured to achieve our goal - wine that complements food.
2010 will be remembered as a stellar vintage in Washington State. A prolonged harvest allowed the picking of this Syrah on October 13th - 2 weeks later than normal - allowing intense flavors and aromatics while maintaining a well-balanced wine.
harvest, Syrah grapes were gently de-stemmed and lightly crushed – allowing 30% whole berries at fermentation. For 5 days, a traditional ‘old-world’ cold soak ensued allowing for flavor and color to integrate in the must before the presence of an alcoholic fermentation. Following this cold soak, inoculation occurred with select yeasts originating from the Rhone Valley and Spain. A desired cool fermentation finished in 7 days with a peak temperature of 81°. The wine was gently pressed off its skins and placed in 5 year old neutral French oak barrels for 15 months. During the final 3 months of aging, 50% of the wine was transferred into 3 year old French oak barrels to allow for additional integration of flavors.
